New Science Building
The University of Hertfordshire’s New Science Building is a £30m 9000m2 Sheppard Robson/BDP designed facility. The building houses numerous science-based departments, previously located in various locations throughout the campus, into a central base.
The building was built by main contractors Bouygues UK and occupied in late 2017.
With four floors of teaching and research laboratories, the architects looked to provide innovative, highly specialised, high quality and stimulating teaching and research spaces - with teaching laboratories capable of accommodating up to 120 students at a time.
The level of specification required by the Architects and University most suited S+B’s Exemplaire C frame system. With its mix of suspended/sliding cabinets and floor mounted mobile cabinets, the project included over 1000 square metres of 16mm thick Trespa TopLab Plus worktops along with over 70 low-velocity fume cupboards.
The building was featured in an edition of Building Magazine in late 2016 with an eight-page article.
